Tung Oil w/CitrusThin
Gilly’s Tung Oil with CitrusThin is a ready-to-use blend of pure tung oil and natural citrus terpenes, designed to seal, protect, and enhance timber with ease. This 80/20 blend improves workability, allowing the oil to penetrate more smoothly into the timber while delivering a rich, natural finish.
Unlike raw tung oil, this pre-thinned formula is easier to apply and spread, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced woodworkers. It penetrates deep into the timber fibres to create a durable, water-repellent finish that protects against moisture, wear, and everyday use.
Made from 100% natural ingredients and free from petrochemicals, Tung Oil with CitrusThin is a safe alternative to synthetic coatings, varnishes, and resins. It’s suitable for food-contact surfaces and commonly used in homes, workshops, and schools for a wide range of timber applications.
Use for
- Kitchen timber and benchtops
- Chopping boards and utensils
- Furniture and cabinetry
- Timber flooring and decking
- Children’s furniture and toys
- Fine woodworking and general timber finishing
Food safe once cured*
Application
| Surface Prep | Ensure the surface is clean and dry before application. Gilly’s LoThin can be used for a vigorous clean. For a lighter clean, you can use an all-purpose cleaner. If there is any oil, wax, grease, dirt or similar residue on the surface, it may affect the tung oil’s ability to cure - so a thorough clean is important. |
| Application |
|
| Dry Time | 24 hours to dry between coats. Allow longer in cold or humid conditions. As there are no driers, it can take 4 weeks to completely cure. Light usage is however perfectly fine within this time frame. There should be general water repellency within the first week if the conditions are right. |
| Coverage | Up to 25 sqm p/L. Subsequent coats or maintenance coats will have much higher coverage. |
| Maintenance | For general maintenance and wear, you can assess as you see fit. We would recommend reapplying a light coat every 12-24 months to keep your timber looking fresh. Over time, with the right maintenance, the finish will only get stronger. When damaged, sanding is generally not required, you can reapply as needed, even to small areas. |
| Clean Up | Gilly’s LoThin or Liquid Soap. |
