About: Innovative natural, polymer-forming interior hardwax oil, free from toxic chemicals, additives, or hidden synthetic resins. Based on natural and renewable raw materials. Protects timber form within and in the surface pores, instead of ‘sitting on top’. EASY to spot repair and maintain. Will not blister and peel when worn. Developed for the protection of all interior timber. Produces a superb, durable, breathable matte-satin finish, with the benefits of both drying oils and wax, which protects and accentuates the natural beauty of the timber. Use sparingly, coverage should exceed 40sqm p/L.
Features/USPs: 100% natural; Solvent free; High coverage – up to 40sqm p/L; Contains carnauba wax and unique heat-treated oils; Easy spot repair & maintenance
Use For: Timber furniture, kitchen tables, doors/framing, cabinetry, window sills/trims, wood benchtops, timber floors, natural replacement to synthetic varnishes, other woodwork and general finishing
Surface Prep: Ensure surface is clean and dry. Best to strip any previous coatings before using for the first time.
Application: Using a clean lint-free cloth, rub hardwax oil in, following the grain. Buff back with another lint-free cloth or buffing pads. A fine applicator pad can also be used, which may be easier. Allow to sit for 30 minutes, then firmly wipe over the entire area, buffing off any excess. This product is designed to bond with the timber fibres rather than ‘sitting’ on the surface, so each coat should be as thin as possible. Two coats should be all that is required. A third is optional and dependant on the timber/conditions. Wait 24 hours between coats. For large areas, the product can be thinned up to 20% for easier spreadability, with Gilly’s LoThin. The coverage is generously large – must be applied sparingly, as a little goes a long way.
Dry Time: 24 hours between coats. Allow longer in cold or humid conditions. Light use okay within 1 week – take care to avoid spills during this time. Full cure takes up to 4 weeks.
Coverage: Suggested coverage is 40 sqm p/L, though testing shows more should be achieved. Consider variances between soft and hard woods. Subsequent coats or maintenance coats will have much higher coverage.
Cleanup: Gilly’s LoThin, Gilly’s Liquid Soap.
Maintenance: Reassess the coating periodically. Generally, only spot repairs may be required, which can be achieved using the method detailed above. This coating will not blister or peel. Sanding won’t be required unless the timber is damaged. Use only light duty cleaners. Don’t allow water and spills to sit for too long.
